Collective Management Organisations (CMO)



SAMPRA is a collective management organisation (CMO) that administers Needletime Rights on behalf of recording artists and record labels. SAMPRA is governed by a board in which record companies and recording artists enjoy equal representation.

SAMPRA is also a member of the Societies’ Council for the Collective Management of Performers’ Rights (SCAPR), an international federation of needletime CMOs based in Belgium. SCAPR strives to improve the exchange of data and performers’ rights payments across borders.

The Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA) is a non-profit organization and acts as a Trade Association of South African Record Companies with members who have a common economic interest in the recorded music industry in South Africa.

RISA Audio Visual (RAV) is the licensing body set up by the Recording Industry of South Africa to grant licenses to users of music videos and sound recordings, but excludes the performance rights in sound recordings. These users include, but not limited to broadcasters, programme-makers, jukebox manufacturers and distributors, in-store background music system suppliers, DJ’s, etc

The Association of Independent Record Companies. AIRCO, is a non-profit, Section 21 registered company (2006/007204/08), serving as South Africa's national music industry association, pro-actively serving and representing the interests and development of South African independent record labels across South Africa and the world.

IMPRA is a non-organisation and a licensor to third parties for collection and distribution of broadcast performing rights in sound recording.
