New Frontiers

We have set up a service to assist local labels get their recordings onto the South African and international collection society databases.

We will extend this service to independent labels worldwide so that we can get them onto South African collection society databases, if they are not already there.

This is very important. South African Collection Societies are very opaque. They are also sitting on about R500m in undistributed reserves.

We assume that those that are directors of these collection societies have made sure that they have been paid we must also assume that the money in the undistributed reserves belongs to independent labels and recording artists.

We do not know who the beneficiaries of these reserves are.

SAMPRA (The South African Music Performance Rights Association) should know.  In our first blog post (click here to read) we ask some questions from SAMPRA.  We will post the response on our blog when we get it.
